Our Faith

As followers of Christ, we strive to live out our faith in unity, humility, and devotion, guided by the teachings of the Holy Bible and the Apostolic Church. The Coptic Orthodox Church, founded by St. Mark the Apostle in the first century, is a beacon of ancient Christian tradition, preserving the faith once delivered to the saints. Below, we share the core beliefs that define our spiritual journey and connect us to God and one another.

What We Believe

The Holy Trinity

We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This mystery of the Holy Trinity is central to our faith, revealing God’s nature as a communion of love. The Father is the Creator, the Son is the Redeemer, and the Holy Spirit is the Sanctifier—three distinct persons, yet one in essence and divinity.

The Incarnation

We believe in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who took on human flesh to save humanity. Through His birth, life, death, and resurrection, Christ conquered sin and death, offering us the gift of salvation. His incarnation is a testament to God’s boundless love and His desire to unite humanity with Himself.

The Sacraments

We believe in the power of the Holy Mysteries (Sacraments), which are visible means of God’s invisible grace. Through Baptism, we are born anew in Christ; through Chrismation, we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit; through Confession, we are reconciled to God; and through the Eucharist, we partake of the Body and Blood of Christ for spiritual nourishment and transformation.

The Theotokos

We honor St. Mary, the Mother of God (Theotokos), as a model of faith, obedience, and purity. Her "yes" to God’s will made the incarnation possible, and her intercessions continue to inspire and guide us. We venerate her as the most blessed among saints, recognizing her unique role in God’s plan for salvation.

The Apostolic Tradition

The Coptic Orthodox Church maintains the teachings and traditions passed down by the Apostles and preserved for over 2,000 years. Our liturgy, prayers, and practices are rooted in the early Church, ensuring that we remain faithful to the apostolic witness. This unbroken chain of tradition connects us to the faith of the first Christians.

The Nicene Creed

The Nicene Creed, formulated by the early Church Fathers, is the foundation of our faith. It articulates the essential beliefs of Christianity, including the divinity of Christ, the work of the Holy Spirit, and the unity of the Church. We recite the Creed in our liturgies as a declaration of our shared faith with Christians worldwide.
